Europe

We are strategically located in Budapest to serve an area of the world that is quite unreached and, often, somewhat forgotten. Europe will appear reached if you look at statistics such as % Adherents, but we believe there is more to being a Christian than belonging to a church, attending twice a year, or ascribing to a religious label. What’s more revealing in terms of actual believers are statistics like % Evangelical. For example, where the Croats of Croatia are over 95% adherent to “Christianity”, 0.26% of them actually profess an evangelical belief in Jesus, according to www.joshuaproject.net.

If you want to see an abundance of beautiful cathedrals and basilicas, visit Europe.

If you want to see an abundance of the true Church, Europe is literally the last continent to visit.

Europe Is Not a Christian Continent

Assuming there even is a such thing as a Christian continent, Europe would be the least Christian of all. If you want to see an abundance of beautiful cathedrals and basilicas, visit Europe. If you want to see an abundance of the true Church, Europe is literally the last continent to visit.

How is this?

Many today call Europe “post-Christian”, meaning that while there used to be a strong presence of Christ’s true Church, that presence has been replaced by other things – atheism, Humanism, cultural “Christianity”, or some hodgepodge of the above.

Europe still enjoys amazing economic wealth and political stability, relatively speaking. We believe this is most fundamentally because the embers of God’s good grace over this continent have continued to glow, even as the fire largely died out decades ago. Europe’s Christian heritage provided a foundation for the good of society, and so the prosperity we see today is a very practical outworking of a previous generation’s obedience to God.

In contrast to society’s prosperity, which ebbs and flows, individual souls either take up their cross, or they don’t. They either die to sin and live to Christ, or they remain dead, in their sins. Europe, then, is the most impoverished continent, spiritually.

Not that we are without hope! There are, of course, wonderful believers and churches all over the continent. They are alive to Christ and love their communities well. And those who don’t know Christ notice all the brighter when someone has offered their body as a living sacrifice to God.

Here’s a graph of wealth and poverty – spiritual wealth and spiritual poverty. 26.5% of Americans profess a basic “evangelical” belief in Jesus. Where do you think Europe is compared to most other geographic areas of the world?
